Established 1968 — M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Mathematics/Statistics/ Agricultural Statistics, with research in, Reliability Theory, Artificial Intelligence, Neural Networks, Pattern Recognition, Fluid Mechanics, Applied Statistics etc.
The Department was established in the year 1968 by the name Department of Mathematics and Statistics which was later renamed as Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science in the year 1998. Earlier basic thrust of the department was to teach courses of Mathematics and Statistics in various undergraduate and postgraduate programs of the university. With growth of the subject in the field of Science and Technology, the Department kept pace and started Master and Doctoral programs in Mathematics/ Agricultural Statistics/ Statistics in last 25 years.
Presently, the Department brings together high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate education and also an active research body of academics and PhD students. The department has a good reputation for student satisfaction and superior employability. The research thrust areas are: Reliability Theory, Approximation Theory, Pattern Recognition, Artificial Intelligence, Neural Network, Time series forecasting, Fluid Mechanics, and Applied Statistics. The Department is rigorously pursuing the development of Mathematical and Statistical models for prediction of agricultural production, disease surveillance and financial stock analysis.

The Computer Centre provides modern computing facilities to support teaching, practical training, research and data analysis of the University. It comprises three laboratories—the UG Computer Lab, PG Computer Lab, and Linux Laboratory facility. These laboratories are equipped with modern computer systems, modular furniture, projectors with projection screens. The Computer Centre has in the binging also contributed to the development of important University software systems, including the Payroll Management System and the Student Registration and Examination System for the Registrar’s Office.
The Computer Centre supports practical courses in computer applications, programming, and data analysis for undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. students. It also provides computational and statistical support to research scholars, faculty members, and scientists.
The UG Computer Lab is equipped with 30 Intel Core i7 desktop computers, modular furniture, a projector with a projection screen, and a whiteboard. The laboratory is used for undergraduate practical classes, programming exercises, project work, and computer-based learning. A range of open-source software tools is used for programming.
The PG Computer Lab is equipped with 30 Intel Core i7 desktop computers, modular furniture, a projector with a projection screen, and a whiteboard. It supports postgraduate lab works i.e., programming exercises, research activities, and data analysis etc. Students use a range of open-source software tools for programming, statistical computing, and data analysis.
The Linux Laboratory supports academic and research activities, including Linux-based programming, networking, open-source applications.
It provides advisory and computational assistance to postgraduate students, research scholars, faculty members, and scientists in the analysis and interpretation of their research data. Further the department has developed and maintains approximately 200 FORTRAN programs for mathematical and statistical modelling. A dedicated server and Linux-based computing environment are available to support research, statistical analysis, and computationally intensive work.
Besides the University Central Library, Department has its own library consisting of about 200 books of Mathematics, Statistics & Computer Science.
