Biography

Dr H J Shiva Prasad is presently with the Department of Civil Engineering, College of Technology, Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar of Uttarakhand State, India (A Government of Uttarakhand State University) as Professor of Civil Engineering. He has been assigned additional duties as Director, International Affairs of the university. He did his graduation in Civil Engineering from the University of Mysore, Karnataka State, UNESCO Sponsored Post graduate (Master of Engineering) in Hydrology with specialisation in Ground Water Hydrology from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IITR) and did PhD research work at Department of Management Studies, Sambalpur University, Odisha state in the field of “Soft computing applications in Reservoir Management”.

He got more than thirty-eight (38) years of teaching and industrial experience at different institutions/universities/organisations. He has more than fifty-four publications of National and International Journals / Conferences to his credit. He has organised thirty (30) training / workshop programmes for the faculty of engineering colleges, field engineers funded by DST, AICTE-ISTE, Science Academies, TEQIP WORLD BANK project etc and attended more than fifty (50) workshops, training programmes programmes organised by Science Academy, DST, DOE, AICTE, ISTE, ICH, and NORAD. He was an elected member of council of management of Indian Water Works Association (IWWA) during 1997-98 and worked as Secretary cum treasurer of ISTE Chapter, College of Technology, GBPUA&T Pantnagar for six years. He is a life member of professional bodies like IAHS, ISH, IWWA, IWRS, IAH, ISTE, MIE, ASCE (India Section).

He has undergone the international training on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in the context of Developing and Transition Countries” organised by Bern University of Applied Sciences, Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering during the year 2007 at Burgdorf, SWITZERLAND Sponsored by Kfw Germany. Also, attended a workshop on Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) sponsored organised through the International Centre for Hydropower (ICH) and Hydro Lab Private Limited, workshop on “Sediment Sensitive Operations in Hydropower Systems” held during 2008 at KATHMANDU, Nepal. He has also attended and presented papers in international conferences at MUSCAT, Oman during 2006 and 2011 and DHAKA, Bangladesh during 2007. He has also undergone UNESCO sponsored International German Summer School (IGSH) programme on Urban Hydro Geology at RUHR University, Bochum, Germany during 2011. He has visited WSU at Sydney, Griffith, QUT and UQ universities at Brisbane in Australia, University of Life Sciences, King Mihai I of Timisoara, Romania (2005 and 2026), Budapest, Hungary, Istanbul, Turkey, Vienna, Austria, Saint Petersburg University of Veterinary Medicine at Saint Petersburg, Moscow State University of Veterinary Medicine at Russia, Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Hongkong etc.

He has vast teaching and research experience of more than three decades to graduate and post graduate engineering students. His industrial experience while working with international reputed ISO 9001 TATA CONSULTING ENGINEERS, MUMBAI includes leading team of experts as Project Coordinator / Project Engineer / Specialist from multi disciplinary areas specialized in different fields. He He has also worked on an All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi of Ministry of Human Resources & Development, Govt. of India sponsored research project under AICTE research promotion scheme (RPS) on “Reservoir Management Using Artificial Neural Network” of duration 2 years as Principal Investigator.

He has worked on an International research project under Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC) titled “Recharge Process of Springs and its Management to mitigate anthropogenic and climate change impact for water Security: A case study in part of Kumaun Lesser Himalaya, India” as Co PI along with Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi  in collaboration with Dr Dharma Hagare, Foreign PI and Prof Basant Maheshwari, of Western Sydney University, Australia http://westernsydney.edu.au Dr Meenakshi Arora and Prof Andrew Western of University of Melbourne, http://www.ie.unimelb.edu.au/ as international partners sanctioned by Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Govt. of India.

He was also Indian Co PI in an another International research project titled “Securing Water for Agricultural and Food Sustainability: Developing Transdisciplinary Approach to Groundwater Management” along with Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, West Bengal (Indian PI Institute) www.iitkgp.ac.in and Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat, Gujarat, www.svnit.ac.in along with International partners Western Sydney University, Australia; http://westernsydney.edu.au (Foreign PI Institute) Queensland University of Technology, Australia; www.qut.edu.au Wisconsin University, USA of www.wisc.edu sanctioned by Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Govt. of India.

In addition, he is also Co PI of Ministry of Earth Sciences (MOES), Govt. of India, Prithvi Bhavan, Lodhi Road, New Delhi sponsored project on “Reclamation of Wastewater for Water Reuse and Water Security through Sustainable Water Resource Management” under the theme Hydrology and Cryosphere.

He was a Reviewer of Journal of Indian Association of Hydrologists (IAH), published by Indian Association of Hydrologists, Roorkee. He is also mentor for Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE), DST, Govt. of India programme. He has worked as University Coordinator for Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) and Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC), MHRD, Govt. of India programmes.

He is also an active implementation committee member of Australia India Water Centre (AIWC), a virtual water centre of 12 universities/organisations from Australia and 17 institutions from India for the development, management of Water (www.aiwc.org.au) The AIWC will enable Australian and Indian partner to develop opportunities and create synergy for a longer-term collaboration for water research and education between the two countries.

He is also a “hydrology” domain expert panel member of National Dam Safety Authority [NDSA}of Government of India. He is responsible for many collaborative activities of the Pant Nagar University with the international universities of the world like Dual degree programmes, collaborative research projects, joint workshops/seminars/conferences, student / faculty exchange programmes etc.
