HISTORY OF VETERINARY ANATOMY

The Department of Veterinary Anatomy previously known as Department of Anatomy & Histology came into existence as one of the four initial departments of the Veterinary college along with its inception in the year 1960. The department owes it importance as it provides sound footing to the new entrants and prepares them to efficiently acquire the preclinical and clinical knowledge. The vivid portrayal of basic concepts of origin, development as well as gross and histoarchitecture of domestic animals with its applied relevance instills confidence in the graduating students to become competent veterinarians. The concern of the Department to investigate the current and intriguing anatomical problems has lead to the significant research achievements.

The research work encompasses not only gross anatomical, histological and electron microscopic investigation on different organ systems of principal domestic animals but department also extends its research insight to wild animals. The major domestic animals which are so far investigated anatomically are buffalo, goat, donkey, mule, dog, and sheep. In bird’s domestic fowl, guinea fowl, kadaknath, Uttara and RIR were investigated. Wild animals that are researched so far includes blue bull, black buck, and wild boar and leopard.
