Pantnagar is situated approximately 250 km from Delhi, 360 km from Lucknow, 90 km from Moradabad, 75 km from Bareilly and 65 km from Nainital by road. The University is connected by the Delhi–Nainital National Highway and the Bareilly–Nainital Highway, and can be reached by rail, road and air.
The campus is served by two nearby railway stations. Most long-distance trains run via the nearby junction of Lal Kuan (LKU).
Getting to the campus: travellers from Delhi can take the Ranikhet Express and alight at Haldi Road Station, where a University bus is available for internal transport; alternatively, take any bus towards Haldwani via Moradabad–Rampur–Rudrapur and get off at Phoolbagh, 2 km west of the Administrative Building. From Lucknow, take the Nainital Express and alight at Pantnagar Station (University bus available), or a bus towards Haldwani via Bareilly and get off at Nagla, near Pantnagar Station. From Agra, take the Kumaon Express and alight at Pantnagar Station. Travellers from the far east can reach Haldi Road Station by the Howrah–Kathgodam Express.

A large number of state and interstate buses ply on these roads. Many state transport buses are available from Anand Vihar ISBT, Delhi to Rudrapur, a journey of about 5–6 hours. Pantnagar campus is a short drive from Rudrapur.
A civil airport near Haldi Road (3 km west of the campus) accommodates private and chartered aircraft. A scheduled flight also operates — Air India AI 9816, Pantnagar (PGH) departs 11:20 hrs → Delhi (DEL) arrives 12:20 hrs (only on Sunday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday).
