Dr. S.K. Kashyap has made remarkable contributions in the fields of agricultural education, institutional development, communication, innovation, and student capacity building over a distinguished academic career spanning more than three decades. With over 32 years of experience in teaching, research and extension, he has served the University in several key leadership positions, including Dean of the College of Agriculture, Joint Director Communication, Associate Director Communication, and Head of the Department of Agricultural Communication. In recognition of his academic leadership potential, he was selected and trained under the LEAP Programme of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, at Monash University, Australia, and the University of Hyderabad.
At the University level, Dr. Kashyap has played a pivotal role in strengthening institutional systems and academic excellence. He served as Chairman of the University Ranking Improvement Monitoring Team, under whose leadership the University achieved first rank among State Agricultural Universities in the ICAR ranking, the ICAR Best Institution Award, and improved national rankings overall; his strategic vision and coordination helped bring the University into the World QS ranking. As Principal Investigator of the World Bank-supported IDP-NAHEP project, he guided it to emerge as one of the best-performing projects in the country. He has also contributed significantly to academic governance as Chairman of the Board of Faculty of Agriculture and as Coordinator of the ICAR-sponsored Faculty Development Centre.
Beyond the University, Dr. Kashyap has contributed at the national level through membership of several important committees and expert groups. He has been associated with ICAR committees for framing guidelines on postgraduate and dual-degree programmes in agricultural universities, and has served on the Uttarakhand Board of Secondary Education, the National Working Group of the Telecommunication Engineering Centre under the Ministry of Communications, and the National Review Team of AICTE for the Best Teacher Award. He has served on the National Biodiversity Authority’s Expert Committee on Agro-Biodiversity and as a Peer Review Team member for the National Agricultural Education Accreditation Board. Recently he was nominated by the Hon’ble President of India as the Visitor’s Nominee to the Academic Council of HNB Garhwal Central University.
One of Dr. Kashyap’s most notable contributions has been in educational communication and institution building. He founded Pantnagar Janvani Community Radio in 2011 — then the only community radio station established within an agricultural university system in India. Under his leadership the station has produced over 25,000 hours of programmes with active participation from faculty, students and village volunteers, and has received the National Community Radio Award four times from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. He also established the Instructional Media Lab and conceptualized the University Museum, inaugurated in 2021, which showcases the legacy and contribution of agricultural universities in India.
Dr. Kashyap has made outstanding contributions to student mentoring and personality development. Through the Educational Technology Cell he developed nearly forty short-term modules focusing on communication skills, leadership, teamwork, innovation, stress management, emotional intelligence and professional effectiveness — initiatives that have benefited more than 10,000 students through hundreds of training programmes and workshops. He has contributed extensively to faculty mentoring as well, organizing over one hundred training programmes on teaching methodologies, instructional technologies and pedagogical innovations, and played a key role in conceptualizing several institutional awards recognizing excellence in teaching, research, extension and student performance.
A strong advocate of innovation-driven educational ecosystems, Dr. Kashyap conceptualized and established the University’s first Virtual Classroom using 3D and virtual-reality technologies, digital classrooms equipped with interactive panels, an e-content development studio, and the Innovation and Incubation Centre to promote entrepreneurship among students. He further encouraged experiential learning by establishing student-run aeroponics and hydroponics agribusiness units.
International collaboration and academic networking have been another major area of contribution. Dr. Kashyap has built a strong institutional network across more than 75 leading international universities to facilitate faculty and student exchange programmes, and played an important role in rejuvenating the historic collaboration between GBPUAT and the University of Illinois, USA — the parent institution associated with the establishment of Pantnagar University.
In addition to his academic and institutional achievements, Dr. Kashyap has consistently promoted social equity and environmental sustainability — initiating ramps for specially-abled students, sanitary-napkin vending machines across colleges, the expansion of LED and solar lighting, energy-efficient infrastructure, water-harvesting facilities, and organic waste-management systems in hostels. His exceptional contributions have earned him several prestigious recognitions, including the ICAR Bharat Ratna Dr. C. Subramaniam Best Teacher Award, the Dr. S. Radhakrishnan University Best Teacher Award, the Faculty Excellence Award, and multiple National Community Radio Awards.
